A new high performance Blu-ray writable media option has been released by Alterac. Alterac's new duplicator grade ink jet printable discs are now available, along with their Robojet Autoprinter of course. Perry Solomon, Alterac President and CEO stated “Responding to Prosumer demand, we are pleased to offer this new white inkjet printable, high performance BD-R 4x Blu-ray media”. The discs will sell for around $200 for a pack of 25. With the popularity of the Blu-ray format, and with the cost to produce consistently lowering, it shouldn’t be too long before we start regularly seeing Blu-ray discs as promo materials.

Digitimes reported that the supply of optical disc drives used in notebook and desktops will remain tight in the third quarter of 2009 due to a shortage of pick-up heads (PUHs). Global suppliers of pick-up heads, including Sanyo Electric and Hitachi, have focused capacity expansion on Blu-ray Disc pick-up heads rather than DVD and CD because the former is more profitable. Second-tier notebook and desktop vendors have suffered most from the supply shortage, since suppliers have given priority to first-tier vendors such as Dell, Hewlett-Packard and Acer.

The DVD/CD RoboRacer SA is the 3rd generation of the highly successful RoboRacer DVD CD duplicator series and is a fully automatic, stand alone DVD/CD duplicator with a 100 disc DVD copy or CD copy capacity. Stand alone means no computer is required and customers can load it with a source disc and up to 100 blank DVDs or CDs and it will produce 100 DVD or CD copies completely unattended.
