Well..dont know about Taiyo...but i heard similar stories in the past. I guess everything is possible nowadays...even fake media...
How to recognize it? Huhhhhhhh...hard one...because if its good copy/imitation of original media..then it would be almost impossible...otherwise almost all original media have its company name and some other codes written on inner side of it...also you could look on package itself....BUT...like i said...if the ones who did this, made exact replica's of in this case Taiyo Yuden media...then it will be very hard to see that only by looking it...maybe some media testing software could come handy in solving this...
Just buy media from companies you trust...and you cant go wrong...because even if this is somehow true...i am still sure it isnt widely spreaded...and police will soon get the ones responsible and remove media from the market (maybe not from BLACK market...but still.. ).
Have a nice day and dont buy cheap media from strangers...

Taiyo Yuden does have "B" quality media available called Valuline, but it is made by TY. The easist way to identify TY CD's is the frosted hub area, and the silver-blue writing surface. Best stuff on the market.
